You know what I really hate about that expression? It's that a lot of borrowers like to think they're stealing.
I don't know in what context Wilde wrote or said that famous quote (I've seen the quote associated to Picasso), but in this era of lazy rockers lifting old riffs and sample music recycling almost everything good ever made, the quote should be modified to acknowledge that mediocrity does quite a lot of stealing too.
