So Paper Planes was kind of a cheap move, right? Take the trippiest seconds the Clash ever recorded and loop it for 3 minutes, then rap in a monotone over it. The catchy and somewhat controversial chorus made us forget it was her laziest work yet.
She kinda goes for the same thing now, with a Suicide loop (nods to Suicide are code for being hip and innovative, right? ... Right?) and no hook of her own to speak of.
I understand taking care of a kid demands a lot of attention and isn't the most conductive setting to remaining creative. I also understand marrying into the Bronfman/Seagram millions removed from her life the tensions and insecurities that generally fuel art that has any form of relevance. I'm not saying she should change her life to please me musically. I do think, however, that her music isn't worth listening to anymore.
So there you go, Maya. I won't be paying attention to the upcoming album. I won't be reading your tweets about the shit you buy and the governments you perceive as evil. I can appreciate the impact you had on the mainstream (mostly a visual influence), but you've served your purpose.
